Two years ago my sister-in-law gave me a laurel tree, and I like it. Although I am a green thumb, the plant is in bloom. It 'grew more than a foot and has dozens of new, bright green leaves. My grocery store sells the herb and it is expensive - about 90 cents per sheet. So I'm thrilled to have my own evergreen.

If you do not wait that long, you buy a plant from seeda local nursery. The nursery can be different varieties, but Sandie Shores, the author had "growing and selling fresh-cut herbs," says one should try Lauris Noblis. This variety does well in zones seven and eight. If the system over six feet tall and has many side branches, it is time to transplant them. Shores recommends a pot that is at least 18 inches in diameter.
